Thanks for reaching out.

When we go through significant life changes, strained relationships, or difficult experiences, it makes sense to feel lonely, stuck, or confused about how to move forward. Sometimes we need help lifting our heavy burdens so we can pause, catch our breath and see more clearly. I specialize in helping you identify, notice, and heal the barriers that are keeping you from connecting meaningfully with yourself, the people you love, and the world you care about.

You are the expert on your life. I listen to your unique pains and joys with compassion and respect and join my expertise and experience with your inner wisdom. We work together to identify your values and goals and develop a counseling plan that resonates with you. While the skills and knowledge you gain can be extremely helpful, I often hear clients say that it’s refreshing to have a space where someone listens compassionately and believes they are worthy of love and belonging as they are. We can go pretty far when we start there.

compassionate, competent, and inclusive care regardless of culture, race, belief, identity, or expression. All are welcome!

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

We all face challenges in life, times when we feel disconnected from ourselves and the person we want to be. Maybe you’re going through a tough transition, feeling lonely, or wondering why you just don’t feel like yourself. Are you feeling on edge, with a pit in your stomach, or with thoughts and feelings that overwhelm you? Are you a parent who isn’t sure how to support your teenager? Feelings of anxiety, shame, stress, and sadness are common, normal parts of life that can give us important information about what we may need. Counseling can help!

I work with individuals ages 16 and older using a strengths-based perspective as we respond to your unique needs and goals. I’ve found Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to be a powerful and research based modality to support clients as you learn how to become more aware of your inner and outer worlds, more present in your life, and able to take action in doing what matters most to you. Depending on your needs and preference I cultivate a creative and eclectic therapy that could include mindfulness, principles from ACT or DBT (Dialectical and Behavior Therapy), EFIT (Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals), empowerment, and nature.

RELATIONSHIP/COUPLES COUNSELING

Relationship-couples-counseling-marriage-therapy:coupleonmountain.jpg

We need each other in this world and the quality of our relationships impacts dramatically the quality of our lives. Some of our deepest human pain can come when we feel disconnected from or hurt by the people we love. It’s a privilege to watch connections deepen as couples nurture or rebuild safety, trust, understanding, and compassion for one another. It can even be fun! I honor the changing nature of relationships throughout our journeys, and find that generally couples and families really do want each other to thrive and be happy.

I utilize aspects of Gottman’s relationship therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy, both research-based approaches to relationship counseling that are creative and adaptable, as well as many other resources relevant to your unique situations.

TELEHEALTH (ONLINE) COUNSELING

Online counseling is easy to do, convenient, private, and can be just as helpful as meeting in person. If you can’t make it to my Poulsbo office for whatever reason we can use online sessions. I care about people having access to support when needed, and I’m grateful that online counseling is increasingly available.

I’ve trained in best practices for Telehealth. As a licensed practitioner in Washington I provide online counseling to individuals or couples who are Washington state residents only. Contact me if you’re interested or have questions!

WALK AND TALK Counseling

Often the best talks in life happen when we’re outside with friends, family, or colleagues, walking together. There are a lot of reasons for this, and we’re all different, but science backs up the benefits of moving our bodies while outside in nature to spark creativity and lower stress.

Nature can give us the canvas to practice paying attention, being present, and creating space for awe and connection. As our capacity grows to connect with and notice our body and senses interacting with the outer world environment, we can apply those skills to noticing and accepting the inner world of our thoughts and emotions. Walk and Talk sessions can be incorporated into individual counseling. Let me know if you’d like to give it a try!
